Mr. Anthony Milanés

Hello, my name is Anthony Milanés and I love science and engineering! After getting a degree in molecular, cell, and developmental biology with a minor in chemistry from UC Santa Cruz in 2006 I began teaching in 2008 at Richard E. Byrd middle school in Sun Valley. Having a childhood passion (that continues today) for music and the performing arts led me to jump at the chance to join the VAAS faculty when the school first opened in 2011. Since then, I have taught advisory, biology, chemistry, AP chemistry, and robotics. In 2018, I received a credential in Career Technical Education (or CTE), which transformed my robotics courses into a 2-year engineering design course sequence that includes the courses engineering development and material science engineering. Also in 2018, I earned a Masters degree in educational leadership and policy studies along with an administrative servers credential. Last year (2022), I earned and became a National Board Certified teacher in the subject of chemistry. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending my off time with my family, fishing, biking, swimming, reading, or traveling to different national parks.
