About Mrs. Evans

I began working for LAUSD almost eighteen years ago.   With a B.A. in English from the University of Southern California, I started out teaching English at Valley Alternative Magnet.   During this time I earned a Masters in Educational Administration and an Administrative Services Credential from California State University Northridge.  After about seven years in the classroom, I became a Literacy Coach for Local District C.   My coaching assignment was split between Holmes MS, Sherman Oaks C.E.S. and Reseda HS.  Since it was a temporary assignment, once it was over, I returned to Valley Alternative as an English Teacher & Intervention Coordinator.
On my way to and from work each day, I would drive by the construction zone that is now VAAS and I would think to myself, "I'm going to work there someday."     I had no idea at the time, what the plan for the school was going to be, but I just felt like it would be great.    When the construction was complete in early 2011, I applied for Valley Region High School #4 and was offered a position.   By the time the school year began, the name changed from VRHS #4 to Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences.   I started working here as an English Teacher/Testing Coordinator, then I served as the Intervention Coordinator and now I am one of two Assistant Principals.   As an AP, a few of the things I am responsible for are:
  • Attendance Review Board Hearings
  • Credit Recovery
  • Intervention Programs
  • VAAS Master Calendar
  • VAAS Weekly Bulletin
  • SBAC Testing Coordinator
  • CAASPP Interim Assessments
  • School Tours for Prospective Families
  • Website Maintenence
  • Departments: English, Performing Arts, Science
