ABOUT MR. LOSCOS

My name is Daniel Loscos and I am entering my 23rd year as a Social Studies and Business Teacher for LAUSD. The 2023-2024 school year will be my twelfth year at the Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences. Through the years, I have taught Advanced Placement United States History (A.P.U.S.H.), U.S. History, World History, U.S. Government, Economics and Financial Literacy / Planning. I have also been involved in athletics serving as both the girl’s and boy’s golf coach, and I have had the privilege of serving as the class sponsor for the Senior class, a duty I passed on last year. I have also served as our school's announcer for athletic events and other school events.

I graduated from Franklin High School in Highland Park, CA and went on to earn a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Communications at California State University, Northridge.

Following graduation I went to work for a mutual fund company in Pasadena working in the Account Reconciliation Department. The monotony of office life and the daily view of a cubicle were soon too much, and I left there to become an independent Financial Planner, working mainly with educators, and presenting retirement workshops.

A chance opportunity landed me in a classroom, and I loved it from the start. I looked into the requirements to become a teacher, and soon after I went on to complete my credential at CSUN, earning a dual credential in Social Studies and Business. I currently live in the city of Granada Hills with my wife and two daughters.

I like to approach my teaching much as I do my life, with lots of passion and energy. I enjoy the challenges each new day may bring, and the rewards that come from successfully maneuvering through them. As a teacher, I have an opportunity to make a positive impact on a young person's life on a daily basis. That challenge is something I value dearly, and this semester I have 220 opportunities to make a difference every day.
