Fall 2021 Updates from Principal Hanock

VAAS Family Update 10.17.21

Good morning, VAAS families,

This is Principal Kelly Hanock with some important information regarding the coming week.

First, I want everyone to know that we are working to ensure uninterrupted learning and educational opportunities for all VAAS students while we continue to provide vaccine access to our employees who have not met the district’s current requirement. There may be some staffing changes to offset potential vacancies beginning next week.

Currently at VAAS we have one campus aide vacancy and one clerical staff vacancy which we will fell with other employees where possible. All VAAS teachers will be on campus and teaching next week, so there will be no disruption to regularly scheduled classes.

We remain committed to providing your student with the best possible education in the safest possible environment. We know students learn and thrive best with in-person instruction where they can interact with teachers and classmates, participate in extracurricular activities, and access the academic and social-emotional supports they deserve.

In other news, our College Offices has arranged visits by Reed College, UC Santa Cruz, and UCLA this week. If your student is interested, please have them contact Mr. Marshall in the College Office. Our college counseling team will also be hosting college lab hours on Thursday, October 21, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 23, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

This week our Counseling Team will be hosting 11th Grade IGP night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Links to this virtual presentation will be available on our website, early this week.

On Thursday, October 21, VAAS will be participating in the Great Shake Out state-wide earthquake emergency preparedness event starting at 10:25 a.m. This is a great time to review your emergency plans at home with your students.

And finally, on Friday, October 22, at 5:00 p.m. Senior Leadership has planned our first senior event of the 2021-22 school year, and the first on campus, in person senior event in two years. Seniors, please remember to wear your COVID face-masks, bring your folding chairs, and be prepared to show your Daily Pass to enter. All seniors are welcome to attend.

Thank you for your continued patience, support and engagement. We hope you will reach out with any questions. Thank you, and stay safe.
