Important Updates from Principal Hanock

VAAS Family Update 2.28.21

First, as many of you have already heard, LAUSD is transitioning to a re-opening of campuses to provide support to students with IEPs, students in specialized populations, EL students, and those interested in Athletic Conditioning. We will continue to share information with you as we learn more. Currently, though, all classes will continue through the Distance Learning Model.


Tomorrow, March 1, we hope you will join our “Drop In With the Administrators” session starting at 8:30 a.m. The ZOOM Log in information for this session is:


Also, tomorrow night from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday night from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., our VAAS counseling team will be hosting FAFSA Lab Night hours for those of you with seniors who have not yet completed the FAFSA. The deadline for submitting your FAFSA forms is Tuesday, March 2, so please take advantage of these final few sessions of support. The ZOOM meeting ID is 846 6547 1899.


On Wednesday, March 3, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. we will be holding our next VAAS drive thru event. If you have not yet picked up your free pair of headphones, please plan to come to the drive-thru alley on the south side of the school to pick them up.


And finally, on Thursday, March 4, The Happening (Quarantine Edition) is happening. Please plan to join us at 5:00 p.m. for a night of great entertainment. Log in information for this event will be available on Schoology.

VAAS Family Update 2.21.21

First, starting tomorrow, we will be celebrating KINDNESS week with many fun activities happening at lunch each day. Please have your student check Schoology for the scheduled events. Tomorrow’s lunch session features a support dog and his trainer and is sure to be an entertaining event for everyone.


On Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., you are invited to attend our VAAS PTSA Meeting. The ZOOM ID for this meeting is 474 463 6875, and the password is VAASPTSA.


Our VAAS Counseling Team will be hosting FAFSA/Dream Act support sessions throughout the week from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Wednesday night from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Please check the school website and Schoology for login information. If you have not yet completed your FAFSA, please take advantage of these free support sessions. 


And finally, the deadline for students to submit their 2021-22 course selection forms is Friday, Feb. 26, by 3:00 p.m. Students who do not submit a form will have their courses for next year selected for them by their counselors. Please remind your student to submit their form on time.

VAAS Family Update 2.14.21

This is VAAS principal Kelly Hanock with important updates for the week.


First, tomorrow, Monday, February 15, is a school holiday in honor of Presidents’ Day. There will be no class meetings on Monday, February 15.


On Tuesday, February 16, as well as on Wednesday, February 17, VAAS Scholars enrolled in the dual-enrollment ASL class can pick up their college textbooks in the VAAS drive-thru between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.


Our next school-wide drive-thru event will be held on Wed., March 3, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students who have not yet picked up their free, district-provided headphones, may do so during this March 3rd drive-thru. 


Also, students who are still experiencing technology issues can schedule an appointment with Ms. Evans and the technology team by emailing Ms. Evans at prior to the March 3rd drive-thru event. Only students who schedule an appointment in advance will be eligible for tech support on this day.


On Wednesday, February 17, the VAAS PTSA has scheduled a restaurant fundraiser at the Devonshire Panera from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Please check our website,, for the flyer you will need to register your participation, and thank you to all of our wonderful PTSA members.


For all seniors and their families who may have FAFSA/Dream Act questions, our counseling team will be available for drop-in support to help you in completing these very important documents on Tuesday, Feb. 16, and Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. During these drop-in sessions, you will have individual time with a counselor to help you with your particular question. Our counseling team will also be available to provide similar support during the school day between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, and Wednesday, Feb. 17.


We would also like to remind you that all students who will be returning to VAAS for the 2021-22 school year must submit their online 2021-22 course selection forms by February 26, 2021. Students who do not submit their 2021-22 course selection forms will have their courses selected for them by the VAAS Counseling Team.


And finally, KNVCos will be hosting a Town Hall on February 25, at 4:00 p.m. If you have questions for our district administrators, make sure to save the date for this important event.

VAAS Family Update 2.7.21

This is principal Kelly Hanock with this week’s important announcements.

First, we hope you will be able to join us for this morning's VAAS Town Hall meeting at 8:30 a.m. Board Member Scott Schmerelson will be joining us to share district updates and to answer questions. Mr. Tyni and Ms. Evans will also be sharing information on Social Media Safety. You can access the Town Hall using this ZOOM Link:


This week we have also scheduled the following Drive-Thru events:

Wed., Feb. 10:

7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Free student headset distribution + textbooks + art

                                    supplies for Ms. Brown's class + VAAS Scholars' ASL Textbook.  

                                    (Note: all LAUSD students are now eligible to receive a  

                                     free pair of headsets to support distance learning)


7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - iPad/Hotspot distribution 

    (Note: Students must email Ms. Evans with their  technology request   

    prior to Wed., Feb. 10, and wait to receive confirmation of their 

   scheduled appointment from her before coming to the drive-thru.)

3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. -  VAAS Scholars' ASL Textbook + free student headsets +  Art Supplies

Please remember that the opportunities for these drive-thru events remain extremely limited due to current pandemic conditions. For this reason, it is imperative that students come on the days the events are scheduled. These two drive-thru events will be the last two we are able to schedule  in the month of February.
