Spring 2022 Updates from Principal Hanock

VAAS Family Update 1.23.22

Good afternoon, VAAS Families,

This is principal Kelly Hanock with this week’s announcements. I apologize in advance for the length of this update.

First, I want to share with you the most recent updates to the district’s COVID Safety protocols provided to schools this past Friday.

Beginning tomorrow, Monday, January 24, and until further notice, all students will be required to wear well-fitting, non-cloth masks of multiple layers with nose wire. Cloth masks will no longer be allowed. Any students who need one of these newly required medical-grade masks will be provided one each day as they enter campus. Students must continue to wear masks both inside and outside and during all athletic practices and competitions.

There will be a temporary suspension of individual contact tracing on school campuses. Instead, LAUSD will be following a group-tracing protocol. Please see the attached letter for more information on this.

TK-12 students who are exposed to a positive COVID case while in school but remain

asymptomatic will no longer be identified as Close Contacts and will not be subject to modified, or at home, quarantine protocols. Exposed students will remain at school and and may continue participating in all extracurricular activities. Individuals currently under modified quarantine orders as a result of household exposure, will be released from quarantine, effective immediately, if they are asymptomatic.

All students and employees will continue to participate in regular weekly COVID-19 testing at school. The next COVID testing date at VAAS will be on Friday, January 28. Remember, those students who have recently tested positive for COVID and are still within their 90-day positive window should not test on Friday. Doing so will result in a student being disallowed on the Daily Pass.

Finally, If a student or employee develops COVID-19 symptoms, they must remain at home and test immediately. Individuals may test at an LAUSD drive-up symptomatic testing

site or by getting a PCR test with an external healthcare provider.  Those who test positive must follow isolation protocols. Locations of all testing sites are available on the district’s website,

Here are the additional updates for VAAS this week:

All students who are interested in trying out for the 2022-23 Spirit Squad should plan to attend the informational meeting in the Dance Studio on Wed., January 26. If you have questions about this process, you should reach out to our Spirit Squad coach, Ms. Taylor Peyton.

Also on Wednesday, January 26, our Counseling Team will be hosting our virtual 9th Grade IGP night at 5:30 p.m. All 9th grade parents should plan to attend as important information about your student’s graduation progress and future course requirements will be shared. The ZOOM link for this meeting is available on the school website,

Next, our VAAS Tutoring Program will begin again the week of January 31, 2022. Any students who are interested can sign up with their counselor or with Ms. Blake.

Additionally, seniors who are still in need of assistance with their FAFSA can get additional support by attending virtual counseling support sessions. Please see the flyer attached to this email for additional support.

And finally, this week we will begin distributing $10 gift cards provided by LAUSD to all fully vaccinated students through their Advisory classes.  If your student is fully vaccinated, make sure they listen to on campus announcements. Those who are not yet vaccinated can still get vaccinated at any district vaccination clinic. The next mobile vaccination team will be on the VAAS campus on Feb. 3, between 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., no appointment necessary.

Thank you again to everyone for your continued support of our VAAS community. We hope you continue to stay safe during these times.
