Good evening, VAAS Families, this is Kelly Hanock, principal of the Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences with some important updates for you and your students.
First, I would like to thank all of you for your flexibility and patience as I know there is a lot of different, and sometimes changing information, about the 2020-21 school year being shared with you from a variety of sources. We will continue to send updates by phone as well as posting updates on the school’s website and in Schoology as we receive additional information.
For today’s announcements, I would like you to know that all Orientation materials required for next week’s Drive-Thru Orientation will be available on our school website and in Schoology tomorrow morning, Thursday, August 6, at 7:30 a.m.
If you would prefer to receive hard copies of these Orientation materials, you may come to VAAS tomorrow, Thursday, August 6, or Friday, August 7, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to pick up an Orientation packet in our drive-thru in front of the school. Either way, the Orientation paperwork must be completed in order for you to participate in next week’s Drive-Thru Orientation event. Please be aware that to participate in Drive-Thru Orientation, everyone in your car must be wearing a facial mask whenever the windows are down.
During Drive-Thru Orientation, students will receive their schedules and textbooks, and they will have the option of taking their Photo ID pictures if they choose. New students and 9th grade students will also receive their iPads. Returning students with iPad issues should make sure to complete the online survey, the directions to which will be in the Orientation Packet.
Also in the packet will be the specific dates and time slots, determined by grade level and last name, for drive-thru Orientation. Please check the dates and times carefully before coming to the school. I’m sorry not to be able to tell you how long this process will take as we are working with a skeleton crew and there are many steps involved in textbook and iPad distribution. We appreciate your patience in this regard and will do our best to move the line along as quickly as possible.
In an effort to provide you current, up-to-date information, I will resume our VAAS Blackboard Connect phone messages on Sunday, August 15. We will also be holding a VAAS Town Hall meeting on Monday, August 10, at 9:00 a.m. Registration information for this informational Town Hall meeting is now available on our website.
Finally, you should know that there will be a Virtual Welcome for all students on Tuesday, August 18th, at 1:00 p.m. and a Teacher Meet and Greet event on Wednesday, August 19, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Actual online, Start Smart classes are currently scheduled to begin for all students on Thursday, August 20.
Please continue to check our website and Schoology for more information about these events. You may also email me at Kelly.firstname.lastname@example.org with any additional questions you may have. Thank you.
