About Ms. Hanock

Kelly Hanock currently serves as principal of the Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences, a distinguished Gold Ribbon School. Ms. Hanock, a Southern California native, graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in English in 1983 and from the UCLA Graduate School of Education with a Clear Secondary Teaching Credential in 1984. She earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies as well as her Administrative Services Credential from CSUN in 2008.

Prior to becoming principal at VAAS in 2014, Ms. Hanock worked as the school’s Instructional Specialist and Assistant Principal. She also served as an original member of the school’s Public School Choice Writing and Design team. Ms. Hanock has worked in LAUSD for 28 years, first as an English teacher at Grant High School and later as an English Teacher, 9th Grade Academy Coordinator, and SLC Coordinator at Monroe High School. Additionally, Ms. Hanock taught kindergarten through the Migrant Education Program at LACOE. While teaching, Kelly earned distinction as a National Board Certified Teacher in English and was selected as a California Teacher of the Year in 2006.

While not at VAAS, Ms. Hanock looks forward to traveling, camping, hiking, cooking, reading, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
