About Mrs. Guerra

Maria Guerra has been teaching for nearly 20 years and has been at VAAS since the school opened. Mrs. Guerra, or Momma G, as she is referred to by the students, grew up right here in the San Fernando Valley. After graduating from the Performing Arts Magnet at Van Nuys High School in 2000, Momma G began her post secondary education at Los Angeles Valley College. While a student at L.A.V.C., she had the honor of serving as the Student Trustee for the LACCD Board of Trustees.

After graduating from LAVC in 2003, Momma G transferred to UCLA where she earned a B.A. in History (specializing in the Near East and North Africa) in 2004. She immediately enrolled in the Secondary Credential Program at CSUN and first started teaching in 2005. She holds credentials in both Foundational Mathematics and Social Science. Momma G returned to graduate school twice, earning an M.A. in Teaching from USC in 2010 and an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Seminary in 2015.

In addition to her VAAS "children" Momma G has five children including an adopted son who has given her the gift of being a grandparent early in life. When not at VAAS you will find Momma G at one of her children's sporting events/practices, bowling, or running.
