About Ms. Ryan
I've been a classroom teacher for 19 years. I received my B.S. in Biology from the University of Puget Sound, and an M.S. in Education from Saint Martin's University, both in Washington State. I began my teaching career in Washington State at Baker Middle School, teaching 7th and 8th grade science. When I moved to LA in 2007, I worked at Monroe High school teaching 9th-12th grade general science, and spent a couple of years teaching at a charter school in Santa Clarita. I began teaching at VAAS the year we opened the school and absolutely love working with the students and families who choose this school. It's hard to imagine teaching at a better place! Currently, I teach AP Environmental Science, Forensics Year 1, and Forensics Year 2. I'm proud to be a part of the science department at VAAS and happy that we can offer so many great science electives.
In addition to teaching, I'm also the Arts & Sciences Liaison and I work with teachers and students to develop ideas for interdisciplinary projects and for the advisory Signature Projects. I enjoy working with community partners to find ways that the school can develop meaningful partnerships with those doing great work in the community. I believe that it is important for students to learn how to access and appropriately use power to make their voices heard in the local and the global community.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the classes I teach or any concerns about your student. My email address is email@example.com. I look forward to meeting all of you sometime during the school year. Thank you for trusting VAAS with the education of your student.
