Engineering & Robotics Club Competition Announcement

Good morning everyone,

It was an exciting weekend of robotics competition fun at Holmes middles school this past Saturday. While much of our entire team is completely new to designing, building, programming, testing, and competing with robots, they did remarkably well. Out of our 7 preliminary (or qualifying) matches, your VAAS Cyber Vipers won the first 6 by impressive margins. This put them in 2nd place out of the 40 teams in attendance. Advancing to the sudden death elimination bracket matches between the top 16 alliances (teams of 2), our VAAS vipers-along with their selected partners from El Camino-battled it out and won the first two rounds placing them into the Semi-finals. Winning this match would have sent them through to the state championships but alas they fell short of a win by 5 points with a score of 136 to 140. I am overly impressed with not only their wonderful performance on the field, but how they handled themselves off the field with great attitudes and sportsmanship throughout the day, lending a helping hand to anyone in need (alliance or opponent). If you see any of these star students, please tell them congratulations for their accomplishment.

Also, if you notice anyone with an inclination towards problem solving, programming, or building things please send them my way as we are always looking for more members.

Cyber Viper Robotics - first competition

The competition was in Calabasas at a private high school called Viewpoint High School. There were 80 matches in total. Out of the five matches we participated in, we won 3, lost 1, and tied 1. By the end of all of the matches, we were in 15th place and, after higher ranking teams created alliances with other teams, we moved up in the rankings to number 8. We were eligible to partake in the quarter finals with two other allies that we got to choose. Without enough practice and knowledge of what would go wrong with the robot, we didn't make it farther than the semi-finals. Hopefully for the next upcoming competition in November, we'll be able to make it to the finals. Go, Vipers!!!

In the competition on 02/13/2016, both teams put up a valiant fight for their final competition, making it to the quarter finals before losing. The teams, however, impressed the judges and earned The Energy Award, The Good Sportsmanship Award, and The Think Award for multi-platform programming skills. The team did well in their competition and, overall, showed their skill and Viper spirit throughout the event.
